Videos circulating on social media showed dramatic scenes of
people wading through water and clinging to fort walls for safety. Thankfully,
the Raigad police and district administration promptly launched a rescue
operation, evacuating all visitors to safety.
"There was heavy rainfall in the area, but not a
cloudburst," a district official confirmed. The surrounding areas of
Mhasala, Srivardhan, and Mahad tehsils also received significant rainfall.
As a precaution, the Raigad Fort will be closed to tourists and
trekkers until July 31st. The ropeway service, however, will remain operational
for those needing to access the area for essential purposes.
