Mumbai-Goa highway bridge has collapsed; questions raised about the quality of construction work.

Under the ongoing Mumbai-Goa National Highway expansion project, the construction of the largest flyover bridge in the Chiplun area was under commenced. On Monday morning at 8:30 AM, a loud noise was heard, and two girders in the middle section of the bridge collapsed, causing panic among the residents. This incident has raised several questions, and it is feared that there may be casualties.

In the past month, the Chiplun area had seen significant progress in the construction of this flyover bridge. However, this incident has the potential to cause further delays.

The flyover bridge in Bahadur Shaikh Naka in Chiplun is currently under construction and spans a distance of 1.85 kilometers within the city. The work on pillar was underway when this incident occurred. (Chiplun Flyover Bridge Broke)

Thew Work was underway to install girders on the bridge. The construction had begun on difficult stretch above the pillar. However, On Monday morning, the girder located at the fifth pillar location collapsed.

The loud noise at this moment caused a great deal of alarm among the citizens. Buildings around the bridge area, including businesses and residential structures, were also affected. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported as construction workers managed to escape in time.

Currently, work on the bridge has come to a halt.
