Since childhood, tunnels always appeared fascinating to
me. Be it road tunnels or railway tunnels, I’d feel that they were treasuring a
secret. There’s something so mysterious about tunnels, isn’t it? Even today,
whether I hit the road or take the train, I love counting the tunnels that I
pass through to reach the final destination. This article is for those like me
who have always been in awe of tunnels. There are also quite a few people who
are scared of tunnels, especially those suffering from claustrophobia. I’d
suggest that all claustrophobics should certainly avoid these long rail tunnels
in Konkan!
1. Karbude Tunnel, Maharashtra:
Karbude tunnel
was the longest tunnel before Pir Panjal tunnel was inaugurated. It is still
the longest tunnel on the Konkan. It is 6.5 km long and is certainly one of the
best engineering works in India. It is located between Ukshi and Bhoke station.
2. Nathuwadi
Tunnel, Maharashtra:
Nathuwadi tunnel used to be the second
longest tunnel in India and is now the third longest. This 4.3 km long tunnel
is located between Karanjadi and Diwan Khavati stations. This too comes under
the Konkan railway.
3. Tike Tunnel,
Maharashtra:
Tike tunnel is
4.07 km long and is located between Ratnagiri and Nivasar. The Konkan railway
route is a beautiful one that you should certainly take at least once in your
life.
4. Berdewadi
Tunnel, Maharashtra:
Berdewadi tunnel,
located between Adavali and Vilawade in Maharashtra is 4 km long. This is a
part of the Konkan railway route and one passes it while traveling to the
Konkan regions and Goa.
