Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar, Pandya trolled for their names in "Big Bang Theory"

American sitcom The Big Bang Theory tried to troll Indian players Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya for the number of syllables in their name. The show revolves around four scientists including an Indian guy named Rajesh Koothrappali. In one of the episodes of season 11 of the show, Rajesh takes his friend Howard Wolowitz to the screening of an Indian match. Being an american Wolowitz barely has any knowledge about cricket and it seems like his Indian friend Rajesh doesn’t either.

Here is the conversation between the two –

Koothrappali – That’s Ravichandran Ashwin, he is amazing. He makes Hardik Pandya look like Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Wolowitz – Wooah, wooah, wooah! Save syllables for the rest of us (laughter in background).
The fun part is that Koothrappali’s dialogue did not make any sense. How is Ashwin supposed to make Pandya look like Bhuvneshwar? It looks like the dialogue was just there so that Wolowitz could crack a joke about the number of syllables Indian names have. The Indian actor Kunal Nayyar who plays Rajesh Koothrappali too could have  made a few changes to the dialogue. Maybe he does not follows the sport that’s why he could not ask the writers to change the dialogue.

Here are a few Twitter reactions :

The show’s rating has slipped drastically as viewers don’t find it funny anymore. There have been articles that the showrunners are just dragging the show too far. The show recently recorded a rating of 2.4/5 rating on Nielsen overnight numbers according to the Variety. Seriously, the showrunners need to realise their mistake, and Kunal Nayyar, we did not expect this from you!
