8 Upcoming Bollywood Period Drama Films


1. Padmavati
Padmavati is an upcoming Indian period drama film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film features Deepika Padukone in the title role as Rani Padmini, alongside Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor, Jim Sarbh and Aditi Rao Hydari. The film is a fictionised account of the life of Rani Padmini. In 1303, Alauddin Khilji, the Turkic ruler of the Delhi Sultanate, laid siege to the Chittor Fort in Rajputana. According to Padmavat, Khilji led the invasion motivated by his desire to capture Rani Padmini.


2. Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior
The movie is directed by Om Raut who is known for his critically acclaimed 2015 release Marathi biopic ‘Lokmanya: Ek Yug Purush’. Ajay Devgan will be seen as Taanaji Malusare in this flim.Taanaji was quite close to Shivaji as they were childhood friends. Hailing from Malusare clan, Taanaji is known for the Battle of Sinhagad in 1670. Battle of Sinhagad in 1670. 



3. Thugs of Hindostan
Thugs of Hindostan is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language period action-adventure film, written and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya with Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Shashank Arora in lead roles. It is about the life of the mob in India before independence.






4. Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi 
Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi is an upcoming Indian epic biographical film about the life of Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi. It is being directed by Krish and produced by Zee Studios in association with Kamal Jain & Co-Produced by Nishant Pitti of EaseMyTrip. Kangana Ranaut plays the title role of Rani Laxmibai.







5. Gold
Gold is an upcoming 2018 Indian sports film, directed by Reema Kagti and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the banner Excel Entertainment. It is a biopic based on the life of hockey player Balbir Singh, who was on the team that won the first Olympic medal for India as a free nation in 1948.







6. Chhatrapati Shivaji
Riteish Deshmukh will be playing the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Indian worrior king.


7. Sons of Sardaar (The Battle of Saragarhi)
The film will be based on the 1879 Battle of Saragarhi, which was fought between British Indian Army soldiers and 10,000 Afghan tribesmen.








8. Firangi  
Firangi (English: Foreigner) is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language Historical Period Drama film set in the year 1920 and it's being directed by Rajiv Dhingra. The film stars Kapil Sharma, who is also the producer, along with Ishita Dutta and Monica Gill in the lead roles.
