PANAJI: In its bid to encourage tourism in
the Konkan belt and generate employment for locals, the Indian Railways is
planning to start the services of the Maharajas' Express, the seven-star luxury
train, between Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala.
"The Maharajas' Express currently
operates in between Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. We are planning to
start it on the Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala route by this year-end.
It will cater to tourists who want to visit the Konkan region and also generate
employment for locals," Union minister for railways Suresh Prabhu said on
Sunday.
